Kali Ma - I destroy to create

The ancient lozenge-shaped block is a design element that dates back to prehistoric times, and is recognised as a symbol of female sexual maturity. Together with the fringed skirt, this symbol has carried through on women's apparel to the present day in European cultures, particularly combining the colours of black, white and red - representing the cyclic stages of death, rebirth and renewal. This quilt celebrates the implacability of change, represented by the Hindu Goddess, Kali: destruction as inherent in Creation.
